Day 1: Empowered Researcher

 Work with your partner to answer these questions. Then post your answers using complete sentences. Please mark the entry by the initials of your group members.

1.  Compare and contrast the results from the various search engines.  Can you make any generalizations?
2.  Did some search engines seem to have more paid listings than others?  If so, which ones?
3.  Which search engines might you be more likey to use and why?


4.  How might using more than one search engine when searching for information help you find better information?
5.  What conclusions can you draw about researching information on the Internet?

    2. Hotbot was the only websites that we checked that had ads it had 4.
    3. We would pick yahoo kids because it has more information
    4. Because you can look at one website then check if the information on that website is correct on the other search engine.
    5. It is better to use website because they have a lot of information and it will help with many more sources.

    ask.com and google.com are the same but yahoo.com and google are really different because google comes up with more results.

    we found that dog pile has the most.

    google because it has the most results on one page.

    because you might not be able to trust some sites like wikipedia.

    its really easy but you have to be careful

  3. Most of the web sites had wikipedia and travel methods. Web Crawler has the most paidn listings it had 8. Web Crawler because it has more. It might have more information if you look at more then one web site. You can't trust Wikipedia where people can change things.

    Most sites have Wikipedia and teravel methods. Google had 3 hot bot had 4 ask and dogpile had 0 paid listings. The ones that are trustworthy and you know are good websites. To check your answers, to see if they are right. To trust websites that people can't change things.

  5. 1.Yes most of the informatoin was the same on every engine.
    2. Yes. Webcrawler did and so did Google.
    3.Google because alot of times on Google what you want will come up.
    4.Using more than 1 search engine can help you because some engines may more information than others.
    5.You should make sure that you type something right because the computer might think that you meant something else.

  6. yahooligans had the least advetisments the most we had was 6 which was on dogpile alta vista also had 0 advertisments like yahooligans

    2.The website with the most paid listings was Lycos
    3. We would use Lycos because the info it had appeared valid
    4.You would find different websites
    5.all the search enigins are alike

    Many websites had octopus encyclopedias and or wikipedia pages. One website even had ocopus pie, or doctor octopus. There were few paid listings on the sites. Travel Methods were common. Imiages were also found on ask.com.

  9. Most of the websites we reaserched had Wikipedia the free encyclopedia. Dogpile had the most paid listings with 14. You can not trust Wikipedia because people can change things whenever they want.

  10. Most of the websites we went to had wikipedia on them but wikipedia is not reliable because anyone
    can post anything they want. Google was the most reliable site we went to. It had three paid
    listings, hotbot.com had three paid listings, yahooligans.com had 1 paid listings, and ask.com had 0 paid listings. Lotsof the websites also had octopus videos.

    2.two of our websites had paid adds those were dogpile and answers
    3. i think i would use google because it had less adds then most of the websites
    4.because you would have more resources when trying to find what your looking for
    5.you get lots more answers than in books

    5.there are lots of ads with no information about what you searched.

  13. 1. Three of them had the same result. They all atleast have one different thing on them.
    2. yes. dogpile had 6 paid listings and all of the others had none.
    3. we would most likley use dogpile because it has more information and we get to it faster.
    4. you can compare what you find to see if the information is the same.
    5. you can see that different websites have different information and some have the same information.

  15. 1. Alta Vista and Hotbot have the same first five results.
    2. Dogpile and kids.yahoo had a lot of paid listings.
    3. I would use Alta Vista and Hotbot because there isn't a lot of paid listings.
    4. It would help because you can see more results.
    5. You have to be care about what site you pick.

    Yea some a had lots of ads and some had lees then others
    google it had lots of infomation
    its better to use different sites to find infomation because it might have different infomation then the other sites
    using the internet is really good for infomation on the thing that your doing because you can get lot and lots of infomation.

  26. 1.altavista.com had less ads for non octopus
    2.dogpile.com had the most ads for non octopus
    3.google.com had 4 ads wich wasnt so bad
    4.and webcrawler had 4 ads to wich isnt that bad.
    5.all the websites were good but i liked altavista.com the best.
